Minorca Black

I can not believe how many cool chicken breeds there are. It's not as easy to find good photo's on the web of them but here is a good drawing of a Minorca Black.

Appenzeller Spitzhauben

Another in the catagory of "hairdo" chickens.

Christmas Peach

Between winter colds and the blimey cold weather, I haven't been a regular in my studio. I did this for my mom's holiday gift basket

This is the final ox painting for the zodiac series.

Persimmon Top

The weather has been amazing and I'm still eating persimmons, what more could I ask for?

From Above

I saw a show recently that inspired me to try an aerial view still life. This is just a little 4" x 4" experiment, but I liked how it turned out.

Hair Do Chicken

My friend Ingrid does an amazing chicken imitation. I think I'll paint her next.

Cochin

This chicken was brought to the United States from China in the mid 1800's and apparently caused quite a sensation. They are big birds, eight to ten pounds but look even larger with their generous feathers.

Lakevelder

I found this book about extraordinary chickens and I'm having a blast!

This is not a turkey...

but another chicken for the series.

Peaches

I know there are no more peaches left to eat, unless they are in a jar, but this big canvas with some peaches was calling for a new look.

Grapefruit

Another one for the series.

Pomegranates

I ate the other half of this pomegranate, and it was really good!

Rooster

This little guy has been transformed a few times.

Kate's Giraffe

If you think this giraffe looks familiar it's because I painted one like him a couple of months ago. I wasn't happy with the composition so I gave it another go.

October Pears

I had to take a break from Persimmons and make some little pears.

Monday, October 22, 2007

6" x 6" Persimmons

These guys are so good right now, I can't get enough of them.

Ellen's Pear

My friend Ellen brought this pear home from the Market on Saturday. I photographed it at noon and it made this remarkable shadow. A shadow that only noon in October can make.

16" x 20" Plate of Oranges

I bought a blow torch and it's changed my world. It's so much easier to get the flame focused while still leaving everything intact. I love it. This one also from the cover of Cook's Illustrated by Elizabeth Brandon.

Beth Mueller's Pears from Cook's Illustrated

I painted these a couple of years ago and decided to return to them to see how I've progressed. I'm pretty happy with how they came out.

Monday, October 8, 2007

blue and red

This is the last in this series of little abstract paintings. I'm sure there will be more, but I'm working on another large still life from Cook's Illustrated.

October

Open Studios gets under way next weekend. You can learn about it by going to the Artspan website or picking up a guide around town. Look for Trish and I on the 3d weekend.

Whisper

Fall is in the air. The days have been sunny and warm but the light is definitely changing.

Blue Flower

A quick one before heading out for the weekend.

White Japanese Eggplants

I'm back. I spent a couple of days in my studio and finally produced this yesterday. My pal Angelo sent me a photo of these eggplants. They were on a Corian counter so I decided to see if I could do something with different color temperatures in whites. It's good to be back.

All Saints Way

Walking through the North End of Boston, I ran across this little bit of magic. I walked the Paul Revere trail and went to The Old North Church. I'll get back to painting and drawing soon. I've been a little busy preparing for my wedding. Boy was that fun!

Scratch

Last week I played around with scraping off the top layer to allow the under painting to peek through. Today I worked on another big piece, but that won't be finished for a very long time.

Yum

I recently read about avocados being eaten with sweetened condensed milk. I haven't tried it yet, but think it sounds really good.

Thursday, August 23, 2007

Aly made some changes...

to this painting. Let me know what you think.

Nesting

A couple of pears reminding me that summer is coming to a close.

Eggplants Galore

These two are on their last leg but there a lot of nice one's cropping up at the market and Saturday is market day!

Thursday, August 16, 2007

Two Eggplants

I've had a couple of unsuccessful days of painting. I'm pretty happy with this piece, especially since was previously a giraffe, a dancer, and an eggplant and pepper.

Monday, August 13, 2007

Grapes

I bought some red grapes at the market this week. They are so sweet and crunchy.

Sunday, August 12, 2007

Peppers

I found a 3" x 8" piece of hardwood that was used to crate enormous underground pipes on Cortland recently. I'm trying to find a way to cut and char it to make little vases for the wedding. In the meantime Trish cut some of it for little paintings.

Leaner

This guy was hanging about during a feeding at the San Francisco Zoo. These might be just about the coolest animals on earth.

Thursday, August 9, 2007

Eggplants

Another messier version of these two eggplants that I picked up at the market on Saturday.

Eggplants on Square Dish

It's been a while since I last posted. Technical problems and life have gotten in the way of painting and posting. It may just be like this for the next couple of months.

Happy Birthday Kathy!

It's my mom's 80th birthday and she doesn't get around so much any more so I decided to make her a picture. And since I like the tomatoes in the dish so much, I went and made her one.
